VOL Ⅰ/Ⅲ : Eleven Occultism Practices

This three volume series will explore some practices, tools in the practice, and less used tools that aren’t as known. In this blog we are exploring eleven practices! To understand Occultism practices a little more we first need to explore the meaning, occultism refers to the study and pursuit of hidden knowledge, often aimed at achieving spiritual insight or personal power. Originating from the Latin word "occultus," meaning concealed, hidden, or "secret”, The concept has strong ties to esoteric, mystical, and supernatural practices. There are many forms of occult or esoteric practices such as palm reading/mediumship/tarot reading etc that use divination to gain hidden knowledge or insight. Occultists might develop ESP as part of their path, but occultism also involves non-perceptual practices like spellcasting or alchemy. The main reason I’m using the term occultism practices rather than Extrasensory Perception (ESP) is for the fact that occultism is a broad, umbrella term for hidden knowledge and supernatural practices (magic, alchemy, spirit communication, etc.). While Extrasensory Perception (ESP) refers specifically to psychic abilities like telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition, which are components or manifestations often studied within or related to occult traditions, but can also be viewed scientifically through parapsychology. The big difference between the both is: Occultism is the field, ESP is a specific power within it. I want to do dive into an overview of the general field rather than just one area and the powers within it…

Psychic

Psychic is the umbrella term; a psychic generally perceives information supernaturally (thoughts, feelings, visions) using their own senses (ESP, clairvoyance, telepathy.) for various reasons like to get information beyond normal senses, often about the future or hidden facts. Think of a psychic as a receiver picking up signals (intuition, hunches)

a psychic reading is a broader term for a consultation that can use various methods, including palmistry, tarot cards, and or intuition, to provide guidance.

Intuitive Psychic

An intuitive uses inner knowing, gut feelings, and subtle energy sensing (often their own or others' immediate energy) for guidance, while a psychic has a broader, more consistent ability to receive specific, often symbolic, extrasensory information (visions, messages, details) about people or events, sometimes connecting to spirit, with intuition often being the base level of psychic skill.

Think of intuition as the "inner compass" or "flash," while psychic ability involves actively discerning and translating clearer, more detailed "downloads" or "readings," though many practitioners blend both.

Intuitive dreamer

"Intuitive dreamer" is a term describing a person who experiences strong intuitive insights through their dreams, An intuitive dreamer utilizes the natural ability of intuition during sleep and dreaming states.

When the rational mind is asleep, the subconscious is more accessible, allowing intuitive perceptions to surface more easily in the form of dreams. This might involve experiencing vivid, "precognitive" (future-predicting) dreams, or dreams that offer insights and guidance related to the dreamer's own life and personal circumstances. This is a universal, passive experience that most people have, such as dreaming of an event that later happens in real life, without necessarily being able to control or call upon this ability at will while awake. Dreams can provide guidance, insights, and warnings relevant to the dreamer's life, drawing on subconscious processing of past experiences and emotional cues.

Spiritual Intuition

Spiritual intuition is a universal inner knowing or "gut feeling" connected to universal truths, guiding personal growth. Intuition is accessible to everyone as a practical tool for life, stemming from our subconscious or spirit.

key tool for accessing hidden knowledge, connecting with unseen realms, and guiding spiritual paths like witchcraft, divination, and magic, allowing practitioners to "feel" their way through supernatural energies and receive inner guidance beyond normal perception. While some view intuition as a universal spiritual gift (like fitrain Islam or pratyaksha in Hinduism), in occultism it's specifically used to interpret symbols, cast spells, and gain insight into deeper truths, essentially making using intuition an act of divination.

Palm reader

Palm reading is a specific type of reading that analyzes the lines, shapes, and mounts on your hand. A reader relies on their own innate psychic or intuitive gifts to provide guidance and insights into a person's life, past, present, and future.

Palm reading is a subset of psychic readings, but a psychic reading is not necessarily a palm reading.

clair-senses

The main "clairs" (clair- senses), which are ways psychic information is receivedClairvoyance (Clear Seeing): Receiving information through visions, images, symbols, or flashes in the mind's eye, the ability to perceive things visually that aren’t present to the senses like seeing auras, visions of the future, symbolic imagery, ghosts, spirit orbs, etc. Clairaudience (Clear Hearing): Hearing words, phrases, music, or sounds that aren't physically present, often in the mind, Clairsentience (Clear Feeling/Sensing):Experiencing intuitive hits as physical sensations, gut feelings, or sensing the energy of people/places, Claircognizance (Clear Knowing): A sudden, certain insight or knowing something to be true without any logical explanation or proof. These are often considered the primary ways people experience intuition beyond physical senses, though other "clairs". Less common “clairs” consist of clairempathy (Clear Emotion): Deeply feeling others' emotions as your own, Clairalience (Clear Smelling): Smelling scents (like perfume, smoke) with no source, and Clairgustance (Clear Tasting):Tasting flavors with no food or drink present. People often have a dominant "clair" but can experience others, with some feeling more natural or developed than others.

These are a specific type of psychic ability. Essentially, all clairvoyants are psychics, but not all psychics are clairvoyants; a psychic might primarily "know" things (claircognizance), "hear" things, or "feel" things, rather than seeing them.

channeler

channeler acts as a direct conduit, allowing a nonphysical entity (spirit, guide) to communicate through them, sometimes even taking control of their voice or body for a two-way dialogue, making channeling a specific form of psychic ability or mediumship.

a channeler as a radio being tuned to a specific station, allowing the "voice" of the entity to come through clearly.

Medium

medium is a type of psychic specifically able to communicate with spirits or the deceased, acting as a bridge between the living and the dead.

All mediums have psychic abilities, but not all psychics are mediums

Fortune teller

fortune teller typically uses tools for divination like cards, palms, astrology, tarot cards, crystal balls, etc to predict specific events.

Fortune telling often feels more ritualistic and outcome-focused, while psychic readings are seen as intuitive guidance for the "now" and present issues. Fortune tellers use external tools; fortune telling often predicts what will happen. While psychics use internal senses; psychic readings often explain why or how to navigate it.

Tarot reader

While a tarot reading uses symbolic cards as tools for structured, specific insights, though many readers blend both, using cards to focus psychic abilities for detailed answers.

It all lies in the tool: psychics might use nothing or any tool (crystals, tea leaves), whereas tarot readers must use tarot cards, interpreting symbols and positions, possibly even involving the client in selecting them. A tarot reader can be a psychic and vice versa it just depends on the reader themselves.

Ceremonial or ritual magic

Ceremonial or ritual magic is a structured system involving specific steps, tools (ex: candles, herbs, symbols, etc), and often invocation, designed to produce a desired outcome.

A psychic's direct thought might be a sudden glimpse of the future; a ritual uses that glimpse, combines it with focused intent, symbols, and potentially spiritual allies to manifest a future outcome. Psychics have the "engine," but rituals provide the "steering wheel" and "fuel lines"

keep them eyes peeled for the next two volumes where I dive more into divination tools and the less common divination tools used In occultism practices!
